Ffotograffwyr Cymru.

We put out an 'open call' in April of this year looking for photographers from all corners of Wales t feature in our first publication through Clwb Ffoto.

We had some great work come through, and we would have loved to have published everyone, but we nailed it down to 7 for the book.

The book sold out on on the opening night. More books have been ordered, and they will be availble at Turner House, Penarth on September 20th and again at BOP, Bristol on October 11th & 12th. Once they're gone, they're gone.

Alongside the book launch, we're running an exhibition featuring work from the book by all 7 photographers. Pop in to have a gander. The work is great and we're very proud to have all involved.

'Port Talbot UFO Investigation Club' by Roo Lewis.

Over a period of two years Roo Lewis photographed the Welsh town of Port Talbot which, according to actor Michael Sheen, has an ‘extremely high number of UFO sightings’. However, the resulting book Port Talbot UFO Investigation Clubis not a study of UFO sightings but instead uses the phenomena as a starting point to explore the people, landscape and folklore of the town.

'Dayz out in Porthcawl'

The British obsession with the seaside lives on in the valleys and industrial towns of South Wales. Whether it is Barry Island or Benidorm, for the ordinary folk of Wales there is a compelling desire to have a great day out and a night on the tiles is a powerful incentive to help one cope with the drudgery of everyday life. A day out (or 7) at the seaside with your family is a welcome escape. Doing it with your mates and a chance to dress up, is an added bonus.

Ron McCormick has been photographing the British seaside periodically forover fifty years and first exhibited some of that work in 1973 in a two-man showwith Josef Koudelka, about the Essex seaside resort of Southend on Sea.(TWO VIEWS at Beecroft Art Gallery, Southend 1973) This recent work returns to the theme with a selection of pictures made inPorthcawl over the last decade and takes in “girls nights out”, “the cult of Elvis”and “a family day at the seaside” overlaid with a whiff of hedonistic celebrationthat mirrors the extravagant indulgence of Blackpool, Brighton and Bognor.

'Black Coal in the Valleys'

March 1st saw the opening of 'Black Coal in the Valleys' by Roger Tiley.

It was our first event and completely packed. The crowd really showed up in force.

Roger's work is a combination of early work from his days at Newport Arts College, to national newspaper and magazine commisions. All centered around the mining community and the valleys.

The show runs until April 12th 2025.
